Arthur Hayes is the CEO of BitMEX (Bitcoin Mercantile Exchange) which he setup in 2014.

Arthur graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 2008 with a bachelors degree in Economics. After which he migrated to Hong Kong where has spent his working life as an equity dertivatives trader. Spending time at both Deutsche Bank and Citigroup over the span of 5 years, Arthur gained experience in the financial markets and became a market maker on both Singaporean and Hong Kong based stock exchanges. He market made on various ETFs until he came across a Zerohedge article on Bitcoin. Upon discovering Bitcoin he tried trading, before wanting to provide a professional experience to traders and then BitMEX was born.
Arthur has been the face of the BitMEX exchange for 6 years and has faced both praise and criticism. BitMEX has become the most popular exchange available to trade derivative products related to Bitcoin and various altcoins such as Ethereum, EOS and TRON.
Over the years there has been criticism of BitMEX with various overload errors and convenient downtime during periods of extreme volatility, but due to its features and ease of use it has maintained market share and still is the biggest derivative platform available for cryptocurrency today.
Arthur Hayes partnered up with Samuel Reed and Ben Delo, who are both co-founders of the BitMEX exchange. Ben Delo became the UK’s first Bitcoin billionaire in 2018 and he was also listed as the UK’s youngest self-made billionaire.
